This year’s Black History Month theme, Time for Change: Action Not Words, is a challenge to us all in our communities, to come together around a shared common goal and take action to achieve a better world for everyone.

How will you respond?

Working with both Councils, Race Equality North Somerset (RENS), working in partnership with Ago Ame, is co-ordinating the shape and development of Black History Month in Weston and across North Somerset.

In addition to the core of centrally organised activities,  members of the public, community groups, businesses and other organisations are invited to initiate their own independent activities and events and promote these on our website. If you’re planning an event, please let us know.

How do I get involved?

In Weston, BHM is organised entirely by volunteers and we need your help to make the biggest impact possible this October. There’s plenty you can do to help ensure the message reaches as many people as possible and we can all celebrate positively together.

  • Visit the national website to find out more
  • Familiarise yourself with the Anti-Racism pledges of Weston Town Council and North Somerset Council
  • Ask your school, organisation or business about what they are doing to challenge racism
  • Learn how to become an ally and share what you learn
  • Call out racism and prejudice in your community
  • Support planned BHM activities
  • Organise your own events and initiatives
  • Help us promote the message of BHM2022 as widely as possible
